Lawnmowers seem to be getting more and more advanced.

But the most advanced lawnmower on the market at this time has to belong to Wal-Mart.

According to 58 year old Joyce Burnside the lawnmower chased her for over 30 feet and cornered her in between some trees. Once the lawnmower had her corned the machine cut off most of Burnside’s left hand, leaving only her thumb and forefinger. Her left elbow was also severely crushed and she endured 18 unsuccessful surgeries in an effort to correct the disfigurement.

The courts awarded her 1.8 million in her case against Wal-Mart. Murry, the manufacturer of the mower filed for bankruptcy.

Since the court believed Mrs. Burnside and felt none of this could be her fault, I have to wonder what happened to the mower.

Will it do time in jail?

Did anyone look into what motivated this mower to turn on Mrs. Burnside?

And will Wal-Mart be looking for less intelligent mowers to sell in the future?

Story and Information came from here.

  • My name is Jason Wood, I happen to be the son of Joyce Burnside and a first hand witness to the accident that you have chosen to make light of. I don’t appreciate you using my mother’s accident as a means of ammusing your readers. Maybe the editor of your source was a bit in-articulate, but none the less the accident was no laughing matter, nor are the injuries she suffered or the perminant disfigurment. The mower was defective. It was proven that Murray intentionally removed the safty switch from that model for esthetic reasons and Wal-Mart was aware of this alteration. As far as a lawnmower chasing her, it was rolling in the same direction as she was running. Not an uncommon property of physics.
