I have to say, one of the worst forums I have ever posted on in my entire life is http://www.lawnsite.com.
Let me start by saying how most forums work.
A forum member is allowed to post a link back to his/her forum. Some forums will not allow links if you are in direct competition with them. Other words, if you are on a lawnmower forum and you are trying to promote your own lawn mower forum, than you cannot post a link back to your lawn mower forum.
But in most cases, that is the only type of link that is not allowed.
However, on lawnsite.com they do not allow you to link to any site that might be able to make money off their forum, unless you pay.
The reason that most forums allow links is because they are making money of the information you post. When you post anything on a forum, the forum owner is getting free content that they will make money with. In return they allow you what is called a signature tag at the bottom of each of your post. Every time you post it lets people know who you are and links to your site.
I have no problem with LawnSite.com’s rule but I do have a problem with the way they went about enforcing it.
Instead of letting me know that I could not do it they kept removing the sigs and not saying anything. After 3 or 4 times of my sigs disappearing l asked why and they told me. I questioned the reason why they did not just tell me and another jerk posted that
I should have read the rules when I signed up.
I guess it is ok to mess with people if they are new to the forum and do not read the rules. I post on a lot of forums and this is the first time I have ever seen a rule like this one. Unlike most people that post on their forum I have the ability to do the same thing they do but better.
I have now bought the name http://www.yardcare.biz and will be setting up a forum to go into direct competition with Lawnsite.com.
